Rebuilding Trustpower’s Integration Landscape with MuleSoft

Client Overview

Trustpower, now operating its generation business as Manawa Energy, is one of New Zealand’s largest renewable-energy producers. With more than 40 hydro-electric power stations across 25 schemes nationwide, the organisation plays a critical role in supplying clean, reliable electricity to homes and businesses throughout the country.

As the organisation evolved, Trustpower recognised the need for a modern, sustainable integration capability that could support future innovation and improve customer experience.

The Problem

Trustpower faced significant difficulty in forming a clear and accurate picture of its existing integrations. This made it challenging for the business to understand where data originated, how it moved between systems, and how existing integrations could be reused or expanded to meet evolving needs.

Without a defined future-state integration strategy, Trustpower struggled to ensure its core applications could be modernised and extended.

The Solution

Adaptiv completed a comprehensive architecture assessment and developed a clear future-state integration strategy for Trustpower.

This initial work provided the visibility the organisation needed over its existing integrations and established a roadmap for how data assets could be better reused, governed, and extended.

Thereafter, Adaptiv and Trustpower engaged in a 6-year partnership in which Adaptiv worked side-by-side with Trustpower to evolve and refine the integration landscape, transitioning services from Azure to MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, introducing API-led principles, and iteratively maturing the architecture as business needs and digital initiatives progressed.

Business Outcomes

With the migration complete and a future-ready integration architecture in place, Trustpower significantly extended the value and lifespan of its key applications. The improved clarity and consistency of integrations led to faster delivery cycles, reduced technical debt, and a smoother path for ongoing enhancements.

These improvements translated into more stable, responsive digital services, contributing to higher customer satisfaction.
